Question #8

We often face one defining circumstance that becomes the headwater from which other issues flow. The issue of being overweight, for instance, can lead to low self-esteem, shaky confidence, and poor health. Maybe you grew up hearing and believing messages such as "You aren't good at anything," or "You were an accident." If you've endured defining words like those, you may battle with issues of self-worth or depression.
For me, blindness is a big issue that opens the door to a host of others. Some of the biggest daily stressors I face are not being able to drive, read, or enjoy independence. And stress, as you know, can morph itself into monster issues such as anger, isolation, or identity crisis. Our issues come with accessories that take up room in our thought closets!

What complications result from your primary issue?

  1. Marital issues result in stress and conflict. It results in lots of time and attention to get back on track. It takes lots of self discipline to do that things we have learned we should be doing. It results in misunderstandings from others who don't understand the time and attention paid to God first and our marriage second.

  2. A cloud of worry and discontent can hover over me when I let my thoughts run free. One of the statements from this study that I wrote down (and also shared with Canaan) is :
"Worry is fixating or meditating on the what if instead of the what is. When we worry we choke out the life-giving truth that should be filling our thought closets. What if's invite fear which leaves no room for the truth".
I need to hang onto the gentle breeze (sometimes a mighty strong wind!) of His truth to keep the clouds away!

  3. Amen to that! I love that because who would choose fear over truth. We just have to see it in black and white sometimes!
