Question #4 Nov. 17th, 2010

Our assumptions affect everything! They impact our relationships, thoughts, and actions. Let's sneak a peek into some Bible characters' thought closets to see their faulty assumptions. 

Find the following characters and post their faulty assumptions next to the references. 

Martha -

John 11:21 (New International Version)

 21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 

Jezebel-

1 Kings 19:1-2 (New International Version)

1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” 

Rachel-

Genesis 30:1 (New International Version)

 1 When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I’ll die!” 

Job's Wife-

Job 2:9 (New International Version)

 9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”

  1. Martha (John 11:21)-assumed Jesus wanted her brother to die because he didn't come soon enough.
    Jezebel (1 Kings 19:1-2)-She believed her gods Little "g" would deal with her.
    Rachel (Gen. 30:1)-She assumed her life would be over if she didn't have children.
    Job's wife (Job 2:9)- She assumed if things go bad in life that God is against you and you would be better off cursing him and dying.

  2. Martha (John 11:21)-Assumed that if Jesus had gotten there sooner, her brother would not have died
    Jezebel (1 Kings 19:1-2)-She had vowed to kill Elijah and assumed that the gods would kill her if she failed to do so.
    Rachel (Gen. 30:1)-She became jealous of her sister and assumed that if she did not have children she would die
    Job's wife (Job 2:9)-She assumed that since they had lost everything, Job should curse God.
